Born in Homs, Syria, in 1953; Ghassan Naanaa studied in the Art Centre in Homs, and graduated from the Department of Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University; in 1978. In 1992, he went to Russia to be trained in Anatoli Klalinikov’s workshop. He held many solo exhibitions in Damascus, and participated in group exhibitions in Sweden, Bulgaria, Cairo, Tunis, and London. Naanaa’s work represents the romantic era. He builds his paintings on distributing touches and colour spaces. His work contains theatre elements, without being excessively realistic, combining literature ideas with visual treatment.
