Working primarily in film and photography, Aiham Dib has a cinematographic vision of the world around him. Capturing the narratives of daily life in Syria, he depicts an important alternative to what is shown in the mainstream media. Pushing boundaries of what art is and how it can change perception, he states that "art helps societies move on by always being rebellious yet constructive."
Born in Damascus, Aiham Dib (1974) studied Fine Arts and image making at the Armenian State Pedagogical University in Yerevan and has participated in numerous workshops with MAGNUM photo[BJ1] s. Working, exhibiting and lecturing internationally, he has focused on vignettes and intimate portraits of people and places, bringing to light a certain sense of humour, humanity and range of personalities.
Dib has exhibited his work in institutions such as the Musée du quai Branly, Paris; the Danish Centre for Culture and Development, Copenhagen; the Modern Art Museum and the Hay Art Cultural Centre, both in Yerevan; the Centre d’art contemporain Le Creux de l’Enfer, Thiers, France and the Centre des arts actuels Skol, Montreal.
